Spam Issues - Hate Spam as much or more than me. Check this out.
Spam is not just an activity carried on by illegal internet pirates or small desperate businessmen trying to get their site seen. Many large businesses allow their networks to be spammed or become cozy homes to spammers, and in some cases depend on the revenue generated.
Being a webmaster and web designer to more than 200 sites, I get a plethora of junk email - aka Spam. I probably get over 200 per day. And before I became very aggressive with the issue, would get near 400 per day. The average Joe doesn't get this many. But my personal and business emails are within the code of many sites I have done. So when robots called 'email harvesters' crawl the web looking for email addresses to spam, they find me. Sounds like something from the Matrix movies.
There are some pretty strong laws in action against spam in the United States. Unfortunately, other countries don't have them in place. Most of them are worried more about more serious crimes such as murder and drug trafficking. But spam is a real nuisance. I hate it. And I appreciate the US cracking down on spammers. But, according to our friends at SpamHaus (a company dedicated to stopping spam) some very familiar and respected names not only allow spammers to use their network, but actually count on it's revenue. Here is a list of the worst:
